“Searching for timeless essence in a modern age.” — RJL II

Ronald James Louque, II was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA, 1977.

Growing up as the son of nationally acclaimed artist Ronald James Louque, Sr., his earliest memories were formed in artist studios, galleries, museums, and shows around the country. “An invaluable byproduct of being raised in that environment was accidentally learning how to think and solve problems like an artist from an early age.”

Early inspirations were the chiaroscuro style of Rembrandt and romanticism of George Inness. Seeing paintings by those masters in person at the National Gallery in Washington D.C. left a lasting impact as Ron has always been drawn to paintings in those styles.

Ron received his initial technical training from his father and then went on to study the works and teaching of representational painters such as David Leffel, Gregg Kreutz, and many others. After a 25 year career as an electronics and audio visual technician, he moved to the lowcountry of South Carolina to paint full time in 2021. He spent several years as a member of the Atelier in Beaufort, SC and has been a featured artist in South Carolina Arts Foundation events.

Ron’s primary interests are coastal landscapes and classical still life. He works exclusively in oil and currently resides on Lady’s Island in Beaufort, South Carolina.
